What You’ll Need:

• 1 Glass-Enclosed Shadowbox (at least 8×10 in size)
• Large Container Silica Gel Pellets
• Large Bowl
• Hot Glue Gun
• Decorative Paper (for background, if desired)

Steps:

Step 1: The first step is to pick and buy your flowers.  I picked Sunflowers for this tutorial. We love FloraQueen’s sunflowers. They are fresh, radiant and they are absolutely gorgeous!  If you want to pick a different type of flower, feel free to browse their wedding flowers collection.

Step 2: Next you’ll want to prepare  your flowers by drying them. Two methods for drying flowers are popular, you can either use silica gel which is great if you want the flowers to keep their radiant color.  Start by cutting the stems and leaves from the flowers, leaving only about a centimeter of stem at the bottom of the flower. Ensure that your bowl is large enough to fit all of the flowers, with enough room so that no flower is touching another. You may need to use more than one bowl for this process. Place your flowers in the bowl, with the stem side facing down.

Another method is simply by just drying them out in your closet on a shelf, which is what I did for this tutorial!.

Step 3: Next, gently pour your silica gel over the flowers, making sure you cover each one. Every flower in the bowl should have at least a small layer of silica gel completely covering it. Allow your flowers to stay like this overnight; place a lid over the bowl and create a small, 1/4 inch opening to enable air to move through the bowl.

Step 4: Now, take your flowers from the bowl and gently shake them to ensure that all of the silica gel falls away from the petals. Cover your silica gel in an airtight container for future use.

Step 5: Next, you’re going to place the flowers in the shadowbox (add your decorative paper to the back of the shadowbox first if desired) using the hot glue gun. Whether you’re going to fill the entire box or create a shape with the flowers, it’s important to line everything up before actually gluing.

Step 6: Now, hot glue the bottom of each rose to the back of the shadowbox, in whatever shape you prefer. Once this is finished, place the glass back on the shadowbox and you’re ready for display.

As you can see, this is a fairly easy process and a wonderful way to preserve and display your wedding bouquet.

These delicious-looking sugar cookies are created in the shape of little wedding cakes, with icing between each cookie. This is a perfect favor because it goes with any wedding theme, any season, and any level of formality.

When asked to describe their wedding day, our bride implied Disney-turned-regal while her groom said Disney meets forbidden forest – and if those descriptions didn’t reel in the child in you then trust me when I tell you to just scroll through their album and you’ll see a different kind of fairytale. I really really love the elegant style of this event – it was very sweet and it was not the kind that was “in your face”. I guess the deep grays should take some credit because it sort of subdued the metallic accents present in the details and decorations (smart palette choices!). There’s truly so much to love in this album – the cute Minnie and Mickey bride and groom caps, the unique cake (with a gold tier), the lovely outfits, and their magical photo shoot by the gardens. Congratulations on your wedding day Kari & Jason!

What is your story as a couple, how did you meet & fall in love?

We’ve known each other since high school and worked together in a small family owned fish n’ chip restaurant where we started dating and fell in love.

What makes the two of you a perfect match?

We have completely opposite personalities, but fit together perfectly. We have fun and make each other laugh to make the most out of everyday together.

How did he (or you) propose?

For my Christmas gift he took me to Disney Land in California for New Years Eve. One night he completely surprised me by purposing in front of Cinderella’s castle on the bridge.

How long was the planning process? Did you think it was enough time?

We were engaged for a year and a half. We starting planning right away, using the entire time. It was the perfect amount of time for us, as we spent a lot of time creating our decor.

What was the best advice you received when you were planning your wedding?

Don’t fight. Relax, and enjoying the process. This is something we took to heart as we can say, although it was stressful and busy at times. I don’t think we have any regrets or would change one thing.

What inspired your wedding décor? Why did you choose the things that you did?

We wanted to have a Disney theme without making it overly obvious with a regal feel. My husband liked to describe his vision as Disney meets forbidden forest.

What was the biggest expense?

Decor. Which we decided from the beginning of the planning was what we wanted to do.

How many guests were invited in your wedding and what was the final guest count?

We invited 390 people, expecting only 350 to show up as many were out of town invites. The final count was 340 people that attended.

How did you narrow down your list?

The list wasn’t narrowed down too much. We invited family and friends, but cut the list down by only inviting first cousins on the groom’s side.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to Hawaii. The first five nights in Maui and the following five on the big island. It was amazing!

What are you most excited about for the future?

After being together for 9 years before we finally tied the knot, it’s going to be nice to start new life together.

Do you have advice for couples still in the planning process?

Give yourself lots of time for planning, stay organized and on schedule. Always compromise if your partner wants something different, because it should be a day you both remember for the rest of your lives!

Complementary – def. combining in such a way as to enhance or emphasize the qualities of each other or another.

It’s one thing to say you and your partner match and although that’s a good thing, it’s also somewhat necessary to be complementary with your beau. You don’t need to have tons of similarities but what matters is that your differences, when put together, creates this one amazing persona that you both unconditionally love. And that’s what I saw when I chanced upon this two’s engagement album and read a few tidbits of their life as a couple. It also helped that they’re actually wearing outfits in one of the most famous complementary colors – blue and yellow! Congratulations Maureen & Jonathan!

How you met:

Her words: Jon and I were both on the cross country team at the University of Toledo together. We were friends for almost 2 years before we started dating. It took us a while to get the timing right.

His words: Maureen and I had met on the cross country team at the University of Toledo. I was a freshman with a science major and she was a sophomore in the sciences too, so naturally we bonded over our difficult classes. It took two years of being close friends, but the timing eventually lined up and we started dating.

How he proposed:

Her words: We had looked at rings in December and our 2 year anniversary was on valentine’s day so I thought it was coming. We went out to dinner on our valentine’s date (February 15). During dinner Jon says “I have been doing a lot of thinking and we should take our relationship to the next level” I think he is going to propose but instead he hands me his apartment key. I was disappointed. After dinner, we stop at his apartment and he gives me these hot pink knee high compression socks (a runner’s thing). I put them on with my fancy dress because they are a rather expensive gift. Jon then takes me home and I’m about to go inside and he says “hey wait.” I turn around and he is down on one knee. I of course still have the hot pink compression socks on. Everybody should get engaged in hot pink socks

asked her to turn around and I proposed on the front step in front of her parents’ house.

If you can give a sneak peek about the wedding details what one thing would you give?

Her words: We are getting married the Saturday after Christmas so look for some Christmas touches, including red bridesmaid’s dresses.

His words: The cake is going to be amazing and slightly different than the traditional cake.

What is the most important thing you have to have for your wedding?

Her words: My dress (and my groom of course)

His words: My pre-wedding run with some of my good friends and teammates, to get rid of the jitters and I have to keep that marathon training up, my dear friends and family, and last but certainly not least my bride.

Pink Blossoms Cake

If any cake says ‘spring,’ it’s this one. This beautiful cake features hand-piping and brushing as well as white and pink blossoms against a white background. It’s elegant and pretty and has a very feminine quality to it.

This is another of our favorite spring wedding cakes. It’s a pale blue, three-tier cake featuring white polka dots, and embellished with dainty pink and white flowers. It’s also adorned with huge pink rose blossoms, and is accompanied by pink and white polka-dot cupcakes.

Spring Garden Wedding Cake

What we love most about this cake is the rustic, not-too-perfect feel of the white tiers, combined with the gorgeous bright flowers cascading down the side. The orange, yellow, green and pink against the white background is stunning.

Naked Wedding Cake with Flowers and Fruits

This naked wedding cake is a three-tier cake overflowing with bright and beautiful flowers and fruits. You can’t get more ‘spring’ than that! We love the unique look of this cake and we’re sure this trend will continue into spring 2015.

Gilded Bird Cage Wedding Cake

We thought this particular cake was not only beautiful, but unique. It’s a four-tier cake, with the top tier consisting of a gilded bird cage. It features a bright yellow that’s perfect for spring, gold accents and flower embellishments.

Every detail in this wedding is the work of our bride, Sydney, and her mom. And since she has such an impeccable eye for design and style, it wasn’t a surprise that they ended up with such an awesome looking 1920’s inspired glam wedding. The venue, a historical train depot, was a plus for the vintage feel of the event. What I love the most was the globe that they painted over with chalk paint then they drew over it the NYC spots that they were going to visit for their honeymoon – such a creative idea. Anyway, congratulations on the wedding Sydney & Jeremy!

What do you think is the overall story for this album?

Two people with extremely busy lives who slowed down to have a small and extremely intimate wedding in their home town

What inspired the wedding day outfits?

Vintage minimalism, She didnt want anything too flashy and was able to find a dress that was elegant, flattering, and affordable.

What was your favorite part of the day?

The preparation was my favorite because everyone was so relaxed. Both the bridesmaids and groomsman were groups of people who had been friends for years and watching them interact was the most laid back of any wedding I have ever photographed.

Was there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?

All of the decorations were made by the bride, Sydney, and her mother. There were many reclaimed pieces of furniture and artwork that they saved from a trip to the landfill and remade them in to something beautiful. I think one of my favorite pieces of decoration was the globe that Sydney repainted to depict a few places in New York they were excited to visit on their honeymoon. The globe is now used as a conversation piece on a bookshelf in their living room (along with a few of my photos!) Along with the decorations, Sydney also made all of the flower arrangements herself as well. Being a fashion merchandiser, she has a wonderful eye for detail and filled every square inch of the event space with something beautiful.

What were the highlights from the ceremony & reception?

One of the highlights of the ceremony was that Jeremy surprised Sydney by playing his guitar and singing her a song. Near the end of the reception, a storm rushed in. It was absolutely pouring and while I was photographing a few of the guests with the bride and groom outside, lightning struck the facility next door which put a little excitement in the evening!

Was there a theme for the ceremony and reception?

I can’t say that there was a definite theme, but everything had an ivory and gold feeling. With a mixture of all romantic decorations in the historical train depot, the event had a 1920’s feeling to it without the over the top gaudiness that comes with Gatsby themed events.

What part of the ceremonies do you think was the most memorable for the bride and groom? Guests?

I think one of the most memorable parts of the ceremony was Jeremy singing to Sydney. There was so much emotion and it was obvious that neither of them saw anyone else around them. They were right by themselves. It was absolutely lovely and there were very few dry eyes in the venue.
