Maggie & Shahul had an intimate backyard wedding with 17 guests & the most beautiful details. For privacy reasons we can’t share the ceremony photos but even without them you can see that this wedding is perfect. Maggie’s attention to detail is really what took this simple ceremony & dinner to the next level.
So we asked Maggie to share with us a little more details about their wonderful wedding and this is what she had to say:
What inspired your wedding day outfits?
I knew I wanted something romantic, flowy, and out of the ordinary. I found that look with my Jenny Yoo Annabelle dress. It’s actually a bridesmaid dress that I ordered from bhldn.com, but when I saw it in that beautiful blush color I knew it was the one. Shahul just wanted to look like himself so he actually wore his favorite suit in his closet and I purchased him the gold tie. Our main colors were blush, black, and gold (we are diehard Saints fans so those two colors were a must!)
What inspired your wedding decor? Why did you choose the things that you did?
Our decor was inspired by our beautiful lake side setting. We just chose a few things that we felt accented the surroundings to make it feel a little more special. Items like the tassels, white linens, and simple centerpieces kept things airy and light which we really loved.
What makes the two of you a perfect match?
We have similar interests, can make each other laugh, and we don’t take the little things for granted.
Can you share some tips or tricks that you learned along the way leading up to the wedding or after?
My biggest tip would be to look at formal gowns, bridesmaids dresses, and even pageant/prom dresses that could work as wedding gowns. There are plenty of options out there so get creative in where you shop.
Another tip is to be nice to your vendors and they will be nice to you!
What was your favorite part of the day?
Our favorite part of the day was capturing pictures at sunset and then relaxing by a bonfire with our family.
Do you have advice for engaged couples still in the planning process?
Do not spend too much time on Pinterest, you will get flooded with ideas and become overwhelmed! Also, you can have a beautiful day and not spend a fortune. Think outside the box for venue locations, like renting a vacation home off season would be cheaper than most wedding venues.
Did you have any Do It Yourself {DIY} projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?
Yes we had a few…
My sister-in-law and I made the tassels that line the deck out of plastic tablecloths in pink, gold, and ivory.
I wrapped our altar letters in twine and spray painted the ampersand gold.
I painted and glittered the “sweets” lettering for the desert table
I cut burlap to size to use as the table runner
I planted the herbs and made little signs using chalkboard stickers (these were our wedding favors)
I spray painted and glittered mason jars to use as vases
My sister turned a costume bracelet into the brooch that I wore on my belt sash.
Did you have a budget for the wedding, did you go over or stay under? Where did you save the most money?
We had a budget of $5,000 and we actually came in a little below that. I definitely saved the most money on the dress which I felt really good about! Another saver of course was our small guest list, we had a total of only 17 guests!
What were the highlights from the ceremony & reception?
At the beginning of the ceremony Shahul’s daughter gave him away to me. When the officiant asked, “who gives this man away to marry this woman?” She replied, “this guy!” It was adorable and had everyone laughing, it really set the tone for our ceremony which was fun and full of laughter. The highlight of the reception was my Dad’s toast. He said some really sweet things about us as a couple that brought me to tears.
What are you most excited about for the future?
We are just looking forward to having lots of adventures as a family.
