A Prince and Princess’ Wedding Day

This is the wedding I imagined whenever I think of a fairytale prince and princess get married. Very humble, very sweet, very adorable and all in all, just plain perfect. Our bride’s gown is the bomb! A Vera Wang creation in blush – it’s flowy material and soft hue made our bride look glowing and lovely. Their cake is also something else. A simple two tiered one but topped with an adorable “princess and the frog” themed topper. The rest of the details followed our bride’s color palette of light pink and it looked amazing amidst the mountainside backdrop. Congratulations on your beautiful wedding day, Christie & Adam!

What is the overall story for this album?

Our main goal on our wedding day was to have fun and create a day that was unique to us. We didn’t follow all of the traditional rules of the wedding (I had a blush dress, my mom walked me down the aisle, we didn’t have elaborate center pieces, gave powerball tickets as wedding favors, we had cupcakes in stead of a large cake and greek food instead of steak or chicken). I wanted my guests to have fun but most importantly I wanted my wedding to feel like me, and if that meant not following all the rules, or following my heart when others told me something was a bad idea, then that was what I did.

What inspired the wedding day outfits?

My dress. I assume like any bride I went through a hundred different color schemes and themes over the planning period. I was a bit indecisive. When I went to try on dresses I thought for sure I was going to get a tight fitting bright white lace dress with straps, but when I tried on the Blush strapless ball gown by Vera Wang I knew I had found my dress. It was everything I never wanted in a dress but it was perfect. The moment I got my dress I decided to design the wedding around it.

What was your favorite part of the day?

Being surrounded by all of my favorite people. I’ve never been so humbled and honored to have such wonderful people in my life. Not only did I get to celebrate the love that Adam and I share, but I was able to do that with so many beautiful people surrounding me. I’ve moved a lot over the years and made friends in different places, having them all in one spot together was so special.

Was there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?

Well my dress was a big project. I bought a blush Vera Wang, fell in love, but I had a vision. I wanted to feel like a princess. So we took a knife to it. Made several alterations and even cut out the entire back to put in a lace-up corset. Everything from the Save – The -Dates to the table numbers was designed by me and help from my mom (who’s a graphic designer). For gifts we gave out sunglasses and powerball tickets that said “We’re getting lucky hope you do to” (nobody won) but they all loved the idea of it. Even my cake topper I painted to she was wearing a pink dress instead of the traditional white one.

What were the highlights from the ceremony & reception?

It’s cliché but the moment I turned the corner and saw my husband was an experience I will never forget. I remember being in awe, it was truly a feeling I hope to always carry with me. During the ceremony we had a surprise renewal of the vows for his parents, and even used their original vows from almost 40 years ago. We also decided we were going to write each other’s vows (he wrote what I was going to say to him and vise versa). People around me were a little nervous that I was doing this, it truly was an example of the trust we have for one another, but they were perfect and I would not have it any other way. During the reception my Uncle Jim sang “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle while I danced with my brother and my Father-In-Law. My dad passed away the year prior and this song was our song, ever since I was a little girl I knew I was going to dance to this song. I knew I still wanted to dance to this song, even if he couldn’t be there, to honor him. So we changed the words some to make it fit and I know my dad was honored and proud while watching from above. Of course let’s not forget when I covered my husbands face in cake, the perfect opportunity to have a food fight and win, because we all knew that my hair and makeup was too expensive to put cake on it.

Was there a theme for the ceremony and reception?

The theme for our wedding was “I Am Happy.” We had those words printed on our programs, sunglasses that we gave at as favors, guest book, table numbers and place cards. Everyday I believe you choose to be happy or choose the ladder, this day, and hopefully many more after, I choose to be happy instead of get caught up in the little things of life that can sometimes be stressful or overbearing. A wedding can definitely be stressful and it’s easy to lose sight of why you are even having a wedding, so remembering how happy we are and being able to share that with our guests was important.

After the ceremony Adam and I took 5 minutes to be alone. It was very important for me that we remember why we are getting married, that it’s not about throughing a big party for all of our friends (which is a lot of fun) but it’s about celebrating our love. We sat there, talked, smiled, stared at each other and realized WOW we’re married! I suggest any bride do this, whether it’s one minute or five, just to take a step back with your significant other and really soak in the moment.
