This wonderful hilltop view is the place where Sarah and Kevin said their vows to each other. Looking at it made me ponder about the beauty of life and love. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why they had the ceremony there. I love the different types and colors of the dresses the bridesmaids wore. Their color scheme also matched that of the groomsmen’s. And the most amazing part of this wedding are the DIYs. Read more and get the details from their photographer, Rachel Goble.
Album Story:
Sarah and Kevin met nearly a decade ago when they both worked at Peet’s Coffee and Tea in Dublin, which happens to be when I met them as well! Their wedding, at a unique location (Nature Friends) in the Oakland Hills, was a beautiful DIY ceremony overlooking Oakland followed by a park style cocktail hour as the sun set. The dinner, served in the wood ordained barn-feel event center, was followed by one of the best dancing parties including Grandma tearing it up on the floor. True to their roots, Peet’s Coffee was served alongside dessert. Every detail had their hand on it as family and friends pitched in to create the magical wedding.
Wedding Outfits Inspirtation:
Sarah and Kevin have been together for a long time, and they wanted their wedding to be FUN and casual. The bridesmaids picked out their dresses in a color scheme, and the groomsmen wore matching shirts and ties.
Favorite Part Of The Day:
I always love when a bride is willing to adventure out in her dress a little bit. Sarah and Kevin were so easy going and their pictures reflect it – she loved off-roading even though it was a bit muddy from the rain the day before. Another highlight was later on in the evening when Sarah’s grandmother entered the dance floor: that woman can DANCE. She was a blast to photograph – I only wish I had video!
The Do-It-Yourself Projects:
Yes! This entire day was DIY. Sarah did the flowers herself the day before and their families did both the setup and took down for the event. Each of the flower arrangements was not only self-arranged but then wrapped in strips of fabric that were meaningful to Sarah: providing both an elegant bohemian feel as well as a touch of sentimentality to the day. The photo booth was also genius: an iPad app that provides your photobooth! The props were, of course, all handmade and provided a great respite from the happening dance floor.
The Highlights of the Ceremony & Reception:
The ceremony was short and sweet – just like they wanted it. It was a time to exchange personal vows before they partied with their family and friends. Sarah and Kevin had been together for quite a while before getting engaged, and the highlight of the ceremony was celebrating their marriage! The reception included a delicious buffet catered by one of their favorite restaurants as well as a dessert cookie bar by the Cookie Bar in Alameda, CA! Delicious. As I mentioned above, though, the ABSOLUTE highlight was watching Grandma dance. She was hilarious! Dancing with all the young men and having a blast.
Memorable Moment:
The goal of the wedding was truly to celebrate – and having friends and family come together to do just that brought them so much joy.
