One For The Books

by Scarlet Leave a Comment

Emilee and Ben are avid readers and it’s only fitting for them to have a library themed wedding — cute, I know! It was an intimate yet festive event. The reception took place in a library and they had library cards as table name cards. It was a non-traditional wedding; no first dance and no party. They wanted a wedding that focuses on things that are important to them — each other and the people that love them. This wedding is definitely one for the books (and yes pun intended *wink*).

Album Story:

Emilee & Ben wanted an intimate wedding ceremony and festivities for their closest friends and family. And The Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee, WI was a perfect venue for them! The outdoor terrace where the ceremony was held has an incredible view of the 6th Street Bridge. The Library Room where guests ate brunch and mingled afterward is full of books…and both Ben & Emilee are avid readers! And the hotel has a funky warehouse feel that they (and I) love!! This was one of the most different, and personal weddings I photographed last year.

The couple focused on what was important. There was no wedding party, no first dance, no cameras during the ceremony (except mine of course). There was also no lack of personal details. We started the day under a willow tree that the couple often visits – just a few quiet moments with the bride and groom. The bride’s sister officiated the ceremony. And close friends of the couple performed readings. The library themed reception decor featured in the Library Room was done completely by the bride with the help of a friend.

The Theme:

Casual / Brunch / Library (the couple loves books!)

The Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Projects:

All of the “Library themed” reception decor and flowers were DIY by the bride and her good friend. They first purchase and arranged the flowers. Using mason jars and burlap for vases kept a casual feel. Old books tied together with twine capped the end of the tables. And each guest had a personalized library check out place card. Other items, like frames and small potted plants were brought from home, helping to keep the bride & groom’s budget in check!

Wedding Day Outfit Inspiration:

Emilee & Ben wanted a casual wedding, and their outfits reflect that! Emilee found her wedding gown online, and Ben wore khakis and a button up!

The Highlights From The Ceremony & Reception:

The highlight of the ceremony was the two unique readings done by friends of the bride and groom. The highlight of the reception was the completely casual nature! Since the guest list was small, and everybody was seated at two long tables, the bride and groom had the chance to mingle with each person! The mimosa bar was also a big hit.

Favorite Part Of The Day:

The ceremony. It was one of the rawest, emotional, personal ceremonies I’ve witnessed. Her sister officiated the ceremony, and both readers are dear friends. There were many tears. And no cameras, so their guests could stay at the moment with them!

Most Memorable Moment:

The role that their family and friends played in every part. Everything was very intimate.
