More and more people are opting for “cozy events” rather than full-on receptions. Having your wedding/birthday party/quinceanera or any other big event in your backyard close to home does sound more personable and less institutional than renting a banquet hall or rental space. Take Los Angeles for example, one of the most exquisite places to plan a wedding. Most people will agree that banquet halls in Los Angeles aren’t necessarily as affordable as one would like. But sometimes the event you are throwing may be too big for even the largest backyard.
Here are 5 signs you probably need to consider renting out a banquet hall for your Wedding or Event.
1. You’re serving on China rather than Paper Plates.
Most caterers provide their own chafing dishes to heat up all the food they’re preparing. But if they also need a sink, then you may not want your little kitchen overwhelmed by all the dishes that are bound to accumulate. Also, if you need hot water, it’s much easier to have access to more than one sink for this instead of operating entirely from the kitchen as well.
2. There’s Nowhere to Dance/to Put in a Dance Floor
There are backyards with hard flat surfaces that can act as a dance floor. And even if your backyard is mostly grass, many event planning companies can install a temporary dance floor. But if you don’t even have enough space in your backyard to install a 15’x15′ plastic panel version, people aren’t going to be able to dance. And don’t even bring up the space needed for choreographed dances for events such as quinceaneras. If there isn’t enough space to dance, it’s not a party.
3. You know you want an open bar
Some people are fine with just a keg of normal beer and a margarita machine. But you you intend to have a sangria fountain or want various types of cocktails available, than an actual wedding open bar might be the best base of operations for such needs. And unless your dad has made a man-cave bar in his garage next to his tuned-up Hot Rod, a banquet hall might serve this purpose much better.
4. You want a band instead of a DJ
It’s easy to rent a DJ and stick them and their speaker system in the corner. Heck, you might not even go the DJ route, you could just plug in your iTunes enabled laptop or smartphone into your speaker system. But if you want a live band to perform at your function, they’re going to need sound systems, microphone outlets, special equipment and so many other options that someone’s home can’t provide. A banquet hall can provide these things.
5. Your backyard isn’t big enough for all the tables you need for seating
If it takes you days rather than hours to fill out all the invitation, you may have underestimated your max capacity. You may want as many people as possible to share this happy day with, but can they all fit in your backyard. And where are these people going to sit? If you start planning the seating arraignments early, you can see just how many tables you intend on having and how many to want to seat at those tables. If this looks like more than your backyard can handle, then a backyard wedding is not an option and you know you need to rent a banquet hall.
