It’s time for the main event of our real wedding feature from Unusually Fine today. As much as I adore the idea of the clambake opening the wedding weekend, the real showstoppers of this wedding are the bride’s hair piece (I’m kind of dying over it) and the birch trees that pop up around the dance floor inside the party tent (how magical is that?!).
The bride, Phyllis, explains her decor choices:
In thinking about the physical look of the tent, I was keeping in mind the unfussy, harsh grandeur of the location. I’ve been to a million chic modern parties — I wanted something a little rough around the edges, a little woodsy, something that felt welcoming and touchable and hand-made.
We did long tables because I think close quarters make for better conversation — and a rectangular table gives you four dinner partners not two. And I had The Lookout platter the food and leave it on the table precisely because that’s what I do at a dinner party in my own home. I think it is cozy, and fosters a little bit of convivial pass-the-salt type icebreaking to more literally break bread together than one does typically at a shindig.
