Lydia and Brandon’s engagement shoot was on a dock at their family’s cottage. When Love & Lace Creative Co. asked the couple to do a casual mini-engagement session, they immediately said yes! As you can see, the couple’s fondness for each other is evident in every photo. Old Souls Studio was indeed the perfect place for their shoot. Founded in 2020, this vintage bohemian-inspired industrial studio loft located near Downtown, Grand Rapids, sealed this adorable engagement with memories of creative poses and stunning backdrops.

Witnessing beautiful weddings come to life in this blog makes our hearts jump as some couples preferred elopement while others settled for lesser guests just to make their dream wedding come true.

The Sand Dune Elopement

This styled elopement is a dream. The photos paint a celebration that is romantic and almost surreal. Emily and Tyler’s Engagement Session: Young and Happily in Love

While an engagement session generally prepares the couples to be camera-ready, Emily and Tyler didn’t need a sort of practice session at all. Their engagement session was loads of sweetness and good ol’ romance. Indeed, young and happily in love! They started taking shots at the Governors Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City and were lucky to have some blooms! They looked carefree as they strolled down the street to the Capital Building but still maintained dainty poses. Ohh, I can’t help but in love, too! I bet it totally made a difference that Cassie of Storybook Moments was there to capture these light and airy photos. As for the story behind this engagement shoot, let’s take it all from the amazing and inspired future bride herself, Emily!

From The Bride

Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?

I worked with Tyler’s mom at United Credit Union in Mexico and Tyler and I would see each other in passing. He eventually added me on Facebook and the rest is history!

What makes your relationship special?

What makes our relationship so special is our support of each other in all of our dreams. Tyler and I have been through a lot together. We started building our dream house when I was 4 months pregnant, I battled with extreme prenatal depression, and I was laid off from my job at nine months pregnant. Then our son was born early and had to stay in the NICU to assist with his breathing. We still had a ways to go on the house when our son was born, so we finished building with a newborn (which, understandably, was very challenging). Tyler has supported me through exclusively pumping for our son for a year, and as I work towards my degree. Tyler recently started a new job and has many dreams he would like to accomplish. Together, we work to support each other in whatever makes us each happy.

How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)

As cliche as it sounds, it was really love at first sight. We both had so much fun together on our first date, and we both were excited to see each other again afterward. I really knew he was the one when he introduced me to his grandparents. His grandfather was blind and when Tyler helped him walk outside to meet me, and explained to him who I was and what I looked like, I saw the most caring man and absolutely fell in love.

Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?

The proposal was a huge surprise! I thought he was going to propose during our maternity pictures, but when we finished the pictures and he didn’t propose, I was pretty disappointed. I even said to him as we were driving back home that I was kind of sad because I was hoping he was going to propose. He pulled into the driveway of our future house (the one we were building) and his mom was waiting there and gave me some Cheetos (pregnancy cravings, lol). We still didn’t have any lights installed at the house, and it was pitch black outside so he walked me over to what would soon be our bay window and flipped on a shop light and the light lit up the wood paneling that read “We’ve been saying it for months now, so let’s make it official. Marry me?” And when I turned around he was on one knee!

We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!

Tyler got exactly what I was wanting in a ring. It’s a rose gold, halo cut, with diamonds along the band. It’s absolutely perfect.

What are you most excited about when it comes to your wedding planning?

Wedding planning has been a tad stressful due to the uncertainties COVID brings. However, we are trying to stay as positive as we can about the struggles this brings. I’ve gone to two dress fittings now and each time I put my dress on I get more and more excited to show Tyler – it’s been SO hard not showing him pictures!! I keep playing over in my head walking down the aisle and seeing Tyler at the front, and it makes me cry just imagining it. I cannot wait to see all of the stresses of planning come together.

Intimate Wedding Ceremony In The Lavender Fields

Aside from the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, the lavender fields in Provence (go Google after!) are also becoming a popular destination for engagements and wedding shoots. Our bride, Sherman, had seen the breathtaking landscape when she studied in Lyon and promised herself to come back. Fast forward to today and here she is with Chris being featured for their intimate wedding ceremony. They started out the day very early as they had to travel down with the whole wedding team. As they scouted these locations, they found two heart-shaped trees in the middle of the field which could not be any more perfect as their backdrop. Sherman wore a light wedding gown without a long train and Mikimoto jewelry during the ceremony while Chris donned a blue suit. The mood was overwhelmingly romantic with vintage details like the bicycle, hats, and lavender bouquet. How It All Started

According to Pierre, their photographer, “They met each other at a friend’s party two years ago. Chris asked Sherman for a date and traveled to Taiwan with her. During the trip, they fell in love with each other. When it came to the proposal it was clear for both that it should be a private and intimate moment. So Chris booked a hotel room and filled the room with Sherman’s favorite characters, Lisa et Gaspard. When she stepped into the room, he got down on one knee and asked the question. He said he wanted to be with her for the future 40, 50, and even 60 years.”

Zach contacted his coordinator to help him plan something special for Cailin and pulled off a magical surprise engagement! Cailin loved fresh flowers, cheesecakes and quirky little things that is why they had every detail whimsically planned and ordered. Best Friends, Engagement, and Mimosas!

Best friends Andrea and Jen got engaged around the same time and decided to throw this fun and cute joint engagement party! There were so many fun little details all around. Guests played bean-bag toss on custom heart-shaped boards and made their own specialty smores by the fire pit. It was so intimate and familiar that it felt more like get together than a party.

The Venue Setting

As the sun went down the cafe lights hanging above the party put the perfect glow on the space and basket of blankets and fire pit kept people nice and warm. They ended the evening around the fire pit sharing stories and making s’mores. Doesn’t that sound cozy and romantic?

The Mimosa Bar

The highlight of the party was the mimosa bar. Andrea and Daniel love making their own mimosas so, when planning the party, a fully stocked mimosa bar was a necessity. Andrea worked her magic to create the prettiest outdoor bar, with all sorts of fresh fruits and juices to make concoctions with, complete with gold-rimmed glasses and floral paper straws. The delicious buffet was provided and each dish was hand-made by Andrea’s parents. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, desserts were brought out: strawberry shortcake & brownie caramel trifles.

Remember These Tips!

Keep it simple, keep personal. An engagement party should be fun! It should celebrate you as a couple. Including elements that reflected both couples made it easy to make decisions and easier to get back on track when you find yourself drowning in Pinterest ideas.

Happiness in the Simplest of Things

When we hear engagement session, we automatically think of a photo session of a couple in an open field, a park, or by the beach, but Juaqin and Nasim had something else in mind. The couple thought of a concept that even their photographer Casey Brodley did not expect! They did normal married couple things like doing grocery, date night at a dive bar, basketball (I know, very unusual), and lastly getting gas. These two managed to make pumping gas glamorous and fun! I can see that Juaqin and Nasim are so excited for the next chapter of their lives. Congratulations, you two!

“How romantic” are the only words that came out from my mind as i read a glimpse of this couple’s love story. I can’t help but gush over their whimsical romance like the Potomac River near their respective river houses owned by their families over the years even before they knew each other! That’s one true destiny right there and to have a proposal shoot under the blooming cherry blossoms is every girls dream! Thank you for inspiring us, Sarah and Ben and congratulations!

The Proposal

What better way is there to propose than with a chrome rose ring box? A couple years ago, Ben bought two chrome rose boxes. He gave one rose to Sarah with earrings inside, and saved this rose because he knew he wanted to marry this girl and thought it would come in handy for the proposal. He was right, and it was as romantic as can be. He actually hid the rose in his shirt for a while before popping the question! It took every bit of effort for him to sit in the car and not be obvious about the fact he was hiding something.
