Packing Up

When going to Costa Rica, you’re going to want to bring an umbrella, especially between May and December. Pack clothing that you can layer so you can stay warm but remove easily if you get too hot. You should also bring a swimsuit if you plan to have fun while getting married.

What You’ll Need: 

Various containers to hold foods.

Trail mix ingredients. Think pretzels, chex mix cereal, peanuts, cashews, raisins, chocolate candies, rye bread, caramel popcorn, dried pineapples, dates, etc.

Saucers or guest plates, cups, bags or bowls.

It’s super simple to set up. All you have to do is fill each container with a type of food and place it on the buffet table or bar. Leave a little sign so guests know to mix their own perfect blend of trail mix. It’s also a good idea to attach tiny name cards to each food that identifies the food. That’s it! Dress up the table with whatever sort of linen and décor you want.

The Spray Tan Nightmare

One bride who planned a gorgeous outdoor spring wedding wanted to get a spray tan so she’d have that golden sun-kissed glow. So, the day before her wedding, she went to get the tan. Unfortunately, she chose a color that was too dark for her natural skin tone and ended up looking orange. Of course, she was wearing a sleeveless wedding dress, so plenty of that orange skin was going to show!

With the help of her bridesmaids, she was able to use a concealer to cover up most of the orange, but it still wasn’t her “dream wedding.” Get your spray tan at least 4 days before the wedding, and get the color you always get – don’t try something new this close to your wedding!

Hiring a Family Musician

Another bride who was looking to save a few dollars learned that you really do get what you pay for. A friend of hers had a cousin who was a musician, and the friend offered up her cousin’s services for the wedding. The bride jumped on what she thought was a priceless opportunity. The day of the reception, the musician was an hour late, and then they learned that he could only play a few different songs.

After he played for an hour, the best man stepped in and plugged in his iPod to provide the bride’s most wanted songs. While you might think hiring a family musician is a good idea, make sure you meet with your musician in advance to find out what they’re capable of!

Uninvited Guests

One bride learned the hard way that often times, uninvited guests will actually show up at a wedding. In her case, the uninvited guest showed up with an invited guest, but brought along her 3 children and boyfriend as well. This meant that there were 5 uninvited guests, when the reception was a sit-down dinner and had been ordered in advance. Luckily, the bride had ordered extra favors so she was able to give them out, and there was additional seating at the venue, but there wasn’t enough food! The groomsmen valiantly gave up their meals to the uninvited guests and as a thank-you, the groom took them out to a steakhouse the next weekend.

On your wedding website, ask that guests make donations to one of your favorite charities rather than bringing a gift.
